PICC Line vs. PIC Line

by Jennifer on May 24, 2011

I found in the Stedman’s Medical Abbreviations, Acronyms and Symbols book (fourth edition) both PIC and PICC.

PICC stands for peripherally inserted central catheter.
PIC stands for peripherally inserted catheter and many more.

I have never seen PIC line used versus PICC line.

Please share any other information you may have on using PICC line in medical transcription.

In my Stedman’s Surgery Words book, under “line,” it lists PICC. I, myself, have always typed it as PICC line.
